Not all of us, but some of us take a lot of pride in our appearances, and there is nothing wrong with that when you look good you feel good, although in saying this there should defiantly be some limits to how far you take it.
Standing in front of a mirror staring at your body “ I wish I had less fat here and a smaller waist and thighs” sucking in you gut wishing you could be that thin. I’m almost sure it’s as common as breathing (ok maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the drift). There is nothing wrong with wanting to be a little thinner or going on a diet, but there are ways you should and shouldn’t go about it.
Starving yourself all day long or for days until your body just can’t take it or only eating a carrot or leaf of lettuce for a day’s worth of food may make you loose a few kilo’s here and there but as soon as your body just can’t take and your so hungry you can’t think straight, so you run for the kitchen cupboard and rave it until you are so full you cant move, you end up putting on more weight than you lose.
Something as crazy as vomiting up after every meal or not eating at all is extremely dangerous and can cause, dehydration stomach acid etc not only that but your body isn’t getting all it’s nutritious needs. You should also realise that it is the first sign of an eating disorder you may be looking in the mirror and seeing someone who is fat when really you’re wasting away. Losing weight the quick way may sound like a great idea but is extremely dangerous and you will find it will never last.
So you may have tried diets and decided they don’t work? Too hard to stay strong and to say no to those fatty foods, exercise is too much effort? So what is the alternative? It won’t happen overnight and yes it will take some effort and it may take longer for some than others to get the results, but if you want it enough and don’t want to kill yourself in the process of achieving your weight goal through starvation than you will give it a go. Don’t make it feel so much like a diet but eating foods you like in smaller portions.
Ok, so a normal day for you, whether it is school, university, tafe what ever and where ever you’re going to be eating or should at least should be. Plan ahead even if your life is crazy hectic find the time because your body should be in the list of priorities. At the beginning of every week (or when you can squeeze it in) make a list of what you’re having for lunch breakfast, dinner and snacks or just make sure you have it all in the fridge. Everything in portions and yes it is ok to include sweets.
Start your day with light and healthy but satisfying whether it is a fruit salad, egg or piece of toast, If your not big on breakfast try make yourself have something even if it is just a piece of fruit it is better than nothing, you need something to get your body going. Snacks are hard to beat, if you are serious about getting healthy and losing some weight than instead of snacking on a chocolate or packet of chips try things like fruit, k-time bars are also a healthier choice rather than chocolate, but in saying that there is nothing wrong with a treat here and there just don’t go over board.
Lunch time doesn’t mean fill up you’re lunch box to the very top, try a healthy wrap or sandwich or maybe even some vita-bits biscuits, if you have a sweet tooth after lunch try taking a handful of grapes. If dinner is normally made by mum or dad/guardian than you don’t need to worry, just don’t go back for seconds as hard as it may be. If you are cooking for yourself try something lean like chicken and try pile up on the veggies. Try not to snack before bed if it’s a habit you just can’t seem to kick try something like a light and not filled with sugar and fats.
Drinking water in between meals make you feel full if you don’t like water try and get your body use to it, water is vital to your body it may not taste very good but if you get yourself use to it, it will be in your bodies favor, it is also a good idea to drink water with your meals. Drinking fresh juice is a good alternative for those of you who can’t seem to conquer water although you should try to drink some water 8 glasses a day is recommended.
Exercise doesn’t always have to be a chore, it may be a bit tricky to get yourself in a pattern and make it regular, if it is something you enjoy like a sport or bike riding than it makes it feel less like a job. Make your exercise fun get a friend/s to go along with you make it a weekly thing you do with him/her, you will find it much more enjoyable and easier to keep it up.
Don’t change your body for anyone but yourself, If you want to diet to loose weight than make sure it isn’t to look good for someone else, Models and super skinny people shouldn’t make you feel the need to be as skinny as them, in the long run it is your life and if you are happy in your body that is all that matters.
Remember you may not care what not eating or vomiting after every meal does to your body but you will when you start to notice and feel the affects, if you want to live do it the right way it isn’t for anybodies benefit except your own.
Please feel free to leave any questions and comments you may have. Stay tuned for more.
Just looking at the image is enough to stop me. There is no reason why anyone should harm themselves in such away and the truth about models is 99% of the time they are airbrushed, there not that thin and they definitely don't look the way the do in magazines on the street.
ReplyDeleteHey Katie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, You are very right, they are not that thin and why should they make it look like that it is only going to make people want to be that thin (well some people)
stay tuned
Hayley
I must agree with Katie, that image is quite confronting. Obviously everyone wants to have a gorgeous hollywood thin body, with everything looking perfect, but the fact is that not everybody can achieve that. Not only that but you have to understand that these celebrities have trainers, dieticians, etc who are looking after there health and fitness. I think that you should aim to be happy with the skin you are in, unless you are unhealthy in weight that you may aim to diet but in a healthy way which will not be detrimental to your health.
ReplyDeleteHey Sarah,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear someone say it,you should be happy in your own skin you have to live with it after all! thanks for the comment :)
i agree with the comments above, very confronting photo. i think teenagers these days have alot of pressure to live up to celebrity figures and there should be more people like you blogging and putting helpful views out there
ReplyDeleteThank's shannon, teens are put under pressure and they shouldn't feel like they have to look like models in order to be pretty or have the perfect body because the reality is bodies are not supose to look like that it is unhealthy and definatly not pretty, let's hope people start to relise this and care about thier bodies a little more than the appearance although I understand how teens today would feel like they need to have the perfect body but as long as you are healthy and happy that is what counts and sometimes we forget that in order to fit in I guess.
ReplyDeleteHey hayley, i firmly agree on your views on the right way to lose weight, there is nothing healthy about just not eating, your views and opinions on the right way to lose weight, or just to maintain a healthy diet were very interesting having studied health and diets at school. I look forward to reading more of your posts on any issue, i also think that the photo was very fitting.
ReplyDeleteThankyou R.bodycote :)
ReplyDeleteHope you stay tuned for more!
Hey. i think really agree with your opinion on what is a healthy diet as its smart and healthy and at the same time its not to the state where you're only eating a peanut for breakfast lunch and dinner. you really have an intelligent view and im sure would give great advice with many other aspects of life.
